Whether you’re potty training boys or girls, these potty training tips and tricks will have your kids well on their way to saying goodbye to diapers. From finding the perfect rewards chart to a fun activity to teach your children how to wipe, these are great potty training ideas.

Potty Training Tips and Ideas

When to Start
The first thing to consider when potty training is when to start. Some kids are ready at 18 months and others won’t be ready until they’re 4 or 5 years old. Check for these signs of readiness before you get started.

Stock up on Supplies
You’ll need a portable potty or potty seat, big kid underwear and (of course) Kandoo Flushable Cleansing Wipes. Learning to wipe with Kandoo Flushable Cleansing Wipes can help your child get cleaner and become potty independent faster. Click here to download a coupon.

For the other supplies you’ll need (including a portable potty seat), we recommend stocking up with our favorite potty training products from BABYBJÖRN. See them all here.

Start Singing
Get your child excited even before you start potty training by singing and dancing to potty training songs. Consider yourself warned: The poop song might get stuck in your head.

Start Reading
When you take a break from singing potty training songs, start reading these potty training books. Your child is sure to get excited for the potty training process!

Download a Chart
A great potty training plan includes a great potty training chart. Download our free printable potty training chart here or check out this post for fun potty training charts that you can make yourself.

Determine Rewards
Most potty training journeys include rewards – both for the child and the parents. You’ll want to consider appropriate potty training rewards that will motivate your child without requiring you to purchase a $20 toy every time he poops on the potty.

Set a Schedule
Getting your child on a potty training schedule right away can be crucial to your success in the early days of potty training. Learn more about creating a potty training schedule that will work for your child here.
